Small Actions Studio, an agency based in Quincy, Massachusetts, was founded on a simple principle: meaningful change doesn’t come from grand gestures, it comes from small, intentional actions done consistently well. That’s the core tenet of our philosophy, guiding every site we build, every word we write, and every partnership we grow.
We create thoughtfully designed websites and digital strategies for nonprofits, purpose-driven small businesses, and community organizations that are making a difference in their communities.

James Lau
Founder / Principal / Designer / Developer
James Lau is the founder and principal of Small Actions Studio. With over a decade of experience in web design and development, James brings his own expertise to crafting compelling user interfaces and elevating user experiences, blending his background in graphic design with innovative development practices.
At Small Actions Studio, James leads design and development across every project. Setting the creative direction, building the sites, and making sure each nonprofit’s mission is matched by work that’s thoughtful, functional, and built to last.
When he’s not being a robot by day, James spends his time being human. He’s a Cub Scout leader for his son’s local Pack 42, a Boston WordPress Meetup organizer, and enjoys watching movies, playing board games and video games, and cooking recipes from old cookbooks dug up at local yard sales.
Ralph Moreau
Senior Designer / Motion Graphics Engineer
A New York–based designer and programmer, Ralph works across motion graphics, brand systems, UI/UX, animation, digital production, and creative technology. His background spans creative direction, visual systems, frontend thinking, motion design, and content development.
His work moves fluidly between design, storytelling, programming, motion, strategy, and emerging technologies, often combining disciplines to create more integrated experiences across physical and digital spaces. He’s especially drawn to projects that require strong worldbuilding, visual clarity, systems thinking, and thoughtful execution.
At Small Actions Studio, Ralph leads branding work for nonprofit organizations, building visual design systems, brand identities, and interactive experiences that bring each project’s story to life across screen and space.
Mandy Jones
Senior Writer & Content Strategist
Mandy is a story-driven person who builds on a simple belief: strategy and soul aren’t opposites. Her path into content strategy came through the craft itself, years of copywriting, long-form storytelling, brand messaging, and message architecture for clients across a range of industries, with bylines at publications like WP Mayor, AffiliateWP, and Easy Digital Downloads. That work taught her how a message holds together (or falls apart) across every platform it touches, and how to build the structure that keeps it clear and coherent.
At Small Actions Studio, Mandy brings her skills to nonprofits and mission-driven organizations, helping them bring clarity to their messaging and content before design and development, running content audits, shaping messaging strategy, and structuring websites so they communicate clearly, engage supporters, and support meaningful action.
Kimi
Project Manager / Team Wrangler
Kimi became a project manager the way all great managers do: by deciding the work simply would not happen without her direct supervision. She oversees the team from her preferred vantage points, the warmest patch of desk, the top of the nearest keyboard, the exact center of any document being reviewed and has a sixth sense for when a deadline is approaching or someone needs to be reminded to take a break. Her methods are unconventional, but the timelines somehow always come together.
At Small Actions Studio, Kimi keeps projects moving and on schedule, making sure work gets done on time and that no one on the team spirals during the busy stretches.
Her real gift, though, is steadiness. Nonprofit work comes with hard seasons, tight budgets, big stakes, heavy missions. Kimi has a way of lowering the temperature in the room just by being in it. Calm, patient, and reliably present, she’s proof that steady presence is its own kind of leadership.
